Confirm the application and the installation scope

Start with the exact model, configuration and material to be processed. Provide examples of the packaging, peak quantities and the bale requirements agreed with your collector. Ask the supplier to confirm the proposed application and provide the current installation information for that configuration.

Agree who is responsible for delivery, offloading, positioning, electrical work, commissioning and training. Record what is included in the quotation and what your site must arrange. This gives everyone a shared list of tasks to complete before the machine arrives.

Check the whole delivery route

Measure gates, doorways, overhead restrictions and turning points from the vehicle arrival area to the proposed position. Share photographs and a marked plan with the supplier. Confirm the transport dimensions, delivery vehicle and unloading method rather than relying on the dimensions of the machine in service.

Ask the responsible site team to assess the floor and the delivery route for the proposed loads. Include thresholds, ramps, surface condition and any underground services that may affect installation work. Lifting and positioning arrangements need to be planned by people competent for that work.

Reserve the complete working area

Request a layout showing the space required for loading, door movement, tying where applicable, bale discharge and service access. Add the equipment and operators involved in moving material. There is no single clearance figure that can be applied to every baler and site.

Plan pedestrian and vehicle movements around the installation. HSE recommends separating these routes wherever possible and assessing crossings where they meet. The proposed baler area should be reviewed as part of the site's traffic arrangements.

Confirm power and location requirements

NORKAM's published specification lists 240 V / 50 Hz for the NK-60 and 3 × 415 V / 50 Hz for the NK-500. These are different supply requirements. Have the supplier and a competent electrician confirm the connection requirements for the exact machine and assess your available supply before ordering electrical work.

Also confirm the conditions permitted at the proposed location, including exposure to weather and the environment around the machine. Do not assume that a photograph of a similar installation establishes suitability for your site. Obtain the installation drawing and requirements for your order.

Plan where finished bales will go

Identify the handling method, storage position and collection route for finished bales. Use the machine-specific unloading instructions and suitable handling equipment. Published bale weights vary with the model and material, so confirm the expected output for your application.

Check what happens while a bale is being removed and while a collection is taking place. Incoming waste may still need a designated holding area. Agree how the site will manage delayed collections without taking over the operating space or access routes.

Prepare the handover and support arrangements

Before routine use, arrange instruction and training for the people assigned to the machine, using its operating manual and the site's assessed system of work. HSE's machinery guidance covers equipment suitability, safeguarding, maintenance and training.

Keep the model and serial details, manuals, service contact and agreed maintenance arrangements accessible to the responsible team. Record how faults are reported and who decides whether the equipment can return to use. Include staff on other shifts in the handover plan.

Send NORKAM your proposed layout, material details and photographs of the access route to discuss the installation. Resolving these points before delivery helps turn a machine quotation into a complete site proposal.

Common questions

How much space do I need around a baler?

Use the supplier's layout for the exact model and configuration, then account for your loading, bale handling, service access and traffic routes. The machine footprint alone is not the required working area.

Can any baler use the electricity supply already on site?

No. Supply requirements differ between models. Share the machine specification with the supplier and a competent electrician so they can confirm the connection and any site work required.

What should be agreed before delivery is booked?

Confirm the application, access route, offloading and positioning arrangements, floor suitability, electrical preparation and commissioning responsibilities. Plan the operator handover and the collection route for finished bales at the same time.
